Road Trip - April 2017, Part 1

Road Trip - April 2017, Part 1

I finally took a real vacation in April of 2017, a long road trip from Winnipeg over to the west coast, through Oregon and California.  I have many relatives there I hadn't seen in years, and the timing coincided with a trip my parents were making.

It was on this trip I rediscovered my love of photography.  Unfortunately I didn't understand yet the importance of shooting in RAW, nor did I have any real understanding of composition.  Also, I only had a telephoto lens for my DSLR, with the iPhone 6 serving as my "wide angle" lens.  With that in mind, I would consider most of these "snapshots", but they were meaningful events to me.  Live and learn, and plan for the next trip!

Saying goodbye for a month:  Winnipeg's Red River at the end of winter.

Massive supercell in Saskatchewan, the road took us straight into cold rain and sleet.

Just over the border from Saskatchewan, in Montana.  I haven't seen mountains in years, had to stop!

A picturesque little mountain lake, somewhere northeast of Missoula.

Missoula, and their giant hillside "M", which overlooks the university.  I was told "hiking the M" was a thing, so I did.

View from the "M".  You can't tell from the previous picture, but the trail is busy with people running both up and down.  My flatland prairie butt muscles got a workout.

The snow is still piled high in Lolo National Forest.

Into Spokane, and the impressive spring runoff.

The relentless roar and swirling spray makes a child cautious.

Down the Columbia on the Washington side, looking back east.  The clouds were low in the northern hills...

Early Spring on the Washington hillsides.

The Columbia looking west, heading to Portland.

I'll leave Part 1 here.  We spent about a week in Portland, it's a beautiful city.
